The Wanderers

Sometimes my heart yearns to put down permanent roots. There is a reason that my blog is called "Dandelion Days": the days seem to fly by and we seem to be blown wherever the wind takes us as a family. When you are a part of a miltary family, good friends come and go and your life changes like the sands in high tide. I really enjoyed our last move but this one has been harder on me because we really made a home for ourselves here and as our precious pets and our belongings dwindle, I have felt really lost for the first time in my life.

Tonight I was searching for travel journals on Etsy (love Etsy!) and I stumbled across something that helped me....so, so much. When I read it, I felt like lightning struck me because it spoke so powerfully to what I have been struggling with. It was a journal with a quote from a book that I have read before.

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost."
-J.R.R. Tolkien

"Not all those who wander are lost".....how awesome is that?? You know what...I will always have deep roots and a place to go "home" to. Even if it isn't in Arkansas or Germany or Florida or Japan or wherever I go. And I am great at throwing together a household and upholding my own family traditions to give my son deep roots, no matter where we are. I can finally start looking at this as an adventure and not something that is hurtful. I can let go and go with the wind again. As long as we are together, we are never lost.
