Jack's Birthdays

Jack's (Five) Birthdays

"Five?!" you say?  Well...I had to include his actual "birth"day.  :)  Jackson arrived on May 10, 2007, at 5:19pm, weighing in at 11 pounds.  Needless to say, he came via c-section.

Jackson's First Birthday!

With Daddy deployed, we held Jack's first birthday at Grandmama's house and it was quite a bash!  Granddaddy grilled hotdogs and brats and we had cake and ice cream.  The cake was made by Aunt Beverly.  The party theme was blue and yellow and featured beautiful blue tulle twined with giant outdoor multi-colored globe lights, small globe candleholders with white tea lights and various flowers.

Jackson's Second Birthday!

Jack's second birthday theme was Frogs.  Jack LOVED Frogs (he called them "Progs").  He had a sweet frog-patterned jon jon made by his Aunt Beth and his Daddy grilled.  The decorations included beautiful multicolored flowers, including white hydrangea and yellow lillies and small blown-glass frogs floated in the vases among the stems.  The cake was made by Publix and had an edible frog photo on it.

Jackson's Third Birthday!

Jack's third birthday ended up being a small family thing at the house.  My Grandmother passed in February and I didn't want to go to Birmingham and have a party that she wouldn't be there for.    We had a good time though.  We ordered Jack a CARS cake and gave him his present from us -- a jeep powerwheel!

Jackson's Fourth Birthday

Jack had two birthday parties this year.  The first one was a family Mickey Mouse-themed red, black and white party in Birmingham on April 2 and the second party was just a small party on his actual birthday in the backyard.

The Mickey party featured red and white polka dotted cupcakes in special cupcake wrappers, an ice cream bar and a platter from Chik-fil-A.  Guests drank iced tea or lemonade from mason jars with chalkboard tags tied to them for personalization and applied their thumbprints to a "thumbprint tree" designed for Jack.

The party on his actual birthday was small.  We bought a cake from Walmart and let him open his gifts in the backyard.

The First Day of School

Wow.  I remember sitting in the hospital, holding Jack, thinking about how I would take him to school one day.  It seems like that was just a short while ago and I guess it was.  Four years is not such a long time afterall.  I always thought I would be really sad but instead, Jack and I were so ready for this!

School actually started last Monday, so the kids were given a project that was due today to make a photo collage that was all about them.  Obviously, I wasn't going to let Jack cut out the photos, so I cut them out and pieced them together on the paper but he did everything else.  He glued them down and put the stickers on and everything.  Sometime this week, he will get to go in front of the class and tell them all about his photos.  I asked him to do that for me and and he told me what every single photo was!  :)

And I had to include his little stamper suprise photos  from last night.  I am so glad that the butterflies came off.  And also him shooting me a bird while showing me his monster, lol.

So here is his lunch for his first day!  He has a big sandwich and a small star sandwich that I made with a cookie cutter.  He has 1 cup of mixed fruit -- grapes and strawberries and some colby and monterey jack cheese hearts that I cut out with a knife.  Then "green chips" (sour cream and onion) and a few little cookies.  :)

He went to sleep pretty easy last night, right around 9:30 and decided to magically pop awake at 5:00.  I was really not thrilled about that because I didn't fall asleep until 2:00.  Erg.  He got up and ate some blueberry yogurt and I got him dressed, took some pics and off we went!  At the school, he went right into his classroom and ran to sit on the rug with the other kids without a backward glance, lol.  I called him over to give me loves and then Garry and I left and he seemed to do great!  On the way out, we paid for his breakfast for the whole week and Garry wanted to peek back in on him but we decided that was a bad idea.  :)

Booooooooring

Not much happened today but, hey, I have photos anyway!  Jack acted like a little beastie for a while, so I put him to work.  He actually enjoyed it a bit!  Bless his heart, he has a cold and just doesn't feel well and I have it too, so I know I am not the best company right now.  He hasn't slept well in a couple of nights.  :/

I thought he might feel better if I let him play in a warm bath but he ended up slicing his foot on one of my bracelets that he was playing with.  It bled and bled and bled.  Poor little guy.

The Dentist *cue dramatic music*

Today was a day that I have been dreading:  Jack's dental appointment.  I dreaded it for two reasons:
1.  Jack has a fairly large cavity that just popped up one day.
2.  Jack can be an utter nightmare when faced with something he doesn't want to do.

I don't believe in "surprising" him by not telling him where we are going and then just springing it on him, so he knew a couple of days in advance and he was NOT happy about it.  Once we got in the office and saw the other children, he calmed down a bit.  I kind of had to pick him up and hold him on the table for a minute for the tech to start cleaning his teeth but he relaxed and cooperated as soon as he realized it wouldn't hurt.  He actually did really well!  The dentist confirmed that he did have a couple of cavities and we will end up going back to have them taken care of.  Yuck.

As a reward, I took him to Toys R Us and bought him and Sam some really cool workbooks and art supplies and I bought Matt a really cool  talking plush Mater...but we will talk about that Mater later.  Jack REALLY enjoyed working in his book and we spent a couple of hours with it!

Okay, well needless to say, Jack had a busy day.  We ended up letting him stay up a bit later than usual and he got into the bag with Sam and Matt's stuff and found Mater.  I took Mater away from him, explaining that it was a toy for Matt and Jack went nuts!  Crying and falling on the ground and running around the house like a madman...it was kind of amazing, lol.  At Toys R Us, I had gotten him a CARS microphone attached to a speaker and he ran over, turned it on and started singing and wailing a song about how he wanted Mater but "Mommy said it was for baby Maaaaaaaaaaaatt".  He squalled so much about it, that I just let him play with it and hid it the next day.  I promptly put him in bed.
