Burg Nanstein and The Search for Elendsklamm

We finally have internet again, so I will update our adventures! To be honest, not much has happened really. We have pretty much been still dealing with moving stuff and I still don't have my precious car, so...yeah.

Jack and I did go on an adventure through the woods on the mountain behind our house. We were trying to find some cool waterfall that our town is known for, called zur Elendsclamm (or something like that). Google translate says that it means "The Miserable Damp".

We found bugs and looked at the mountains and I accidentally snapped a photo of Jack being stung on the nose by a mosquito, lol. As soon as I noticed why he was making the face, I swatted it off but it was too late.

We never did find the waterfalls but we did have a good walk. :)

Burg Nanstein

So, a few kilometers from us in Landstuhl is a castle that was built around 1162! It is called Nanstein Castle and it is super cool! It was fortified to defend with and against firearms in 1508-ish by Franz von Sickingen and he proceeded to attack a lot of the other towns in the area. Finally he picked on the wrong area and they attacked Nanstein and von Sickengen was killed in the rubble.

Sitting in one of the windows of the ruin

There is fallen rubble everywhere and you can climb all over the place!

He was like 20 feet off of the ground here.

The Sickingen crest

Sticking his hands in the...mouth? Kinda creepy, really.

But not as creepy as the creepy torso! Eesh!

So cool.

I heard a ruckus and this plane took off right in front of us! The flightline of the base is right there.

Lookin at "trees and houses"

Statue of von Sickingen. He looked like an intense kind of guy.
